Former Web Company President Pleads Guilty
Wednesday, January 23, 2008
The former president of a Providence-based firm that sold electronics on the Internet pleaded guilty Wednesday to scamming a credit card processing company out of $2 million.
Cory Johnson, 29, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering Wednesday in U.S. District Court. He faces up to 15 years in prison and $500,000 in fines.
Prosecutors said Johnson started Mixitforme in 2005.
He falsified documents submitted to a credit card processing firm, which lost $2.2 million when it had to reimburse customers for orders that Mixitforme never filled.
Johnson previously agreed to plead guilty and cooperate with authorities in return for a reduced sentence. His defense attorney declined to comment.
