Cash discounts at the pumps may be making a comeback.
Cory's Petroleum Inc., with gas stations in East Lyme and Groton as well as Rhode Island and Massachusetts, is one of the first locally offering discounts of 10 cents a gallon — so long as you pay with greenbacks instead of plastic.
Sal Cory, who owns the tri-state business, is doing nothing wrong by offering cash discounts, according to Frank Greene, director of the division of Food and Standards for the state Department of Consumer Protection, because the stations are clearly posting the discounted cash prices along with the higher credit-card prices.
