DeSoto County authorities say consumers no longer have to pay with cash or checks at local businesses anymore. 

Wednesday they revealed new information on a theft ring that's had them baffled for months.

Commander Mark Blackson with the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department says someone hacked into a third party credit card processing center called Cynergy, based out of New York City.

The national company has a database that contains thousands of credit and debit card numbers. Smaller local shops often use companies like Cynergy to do business.

Blackson says they pinpointed a few places in Hernando who may be connected to the database. Unfortunately, some of their customers ended up victims.
